Daily Briefing – June 7: Sunday reset after the AI-chip shock, hot payrolls, higher yields, Marvell’s S&P 500 setup and a week packed with Apple, Oracle, inflation data and biotech catalyst discipline

The June 7 briefing is a Sunday reset, not a quiet weekend note. Friday’s market shock changed the short-term tone: the May jobs report came in stronger than expected, with U.S. nonfarm payrolls rising by 172,000 and unemployment holding at 4.3%, giving traders less room to price quick Fed easing. The result was a sharp repricing in yields, a broad risk-off session and heavy pressure on the most crowded growth trades. The Nasdaq lost more than 4%, the S&P 500 dropped more than 2.5%, and semiconductors suffered one of their worst sessions in years as the AI trade finally met a serious valuation stress test. Broadcom remains the center of the reset because the market’s reaction showed that strong AI exposure is no longer enough by itself: guidance, margins, backlog quality and valuation now need to clear a much higher bar. Marvell stays important for the opposite reason: it sold off with the group, but it also gained a new benchmark-flow angle after S&P Dow Jones Indices selected Marvell and Flex for S&P 500 inclusion before the open on June 22. That makes MRVL one of the cleanest Monday watch names for both AI custom silicon and index-demand follow-through. The week ahead adds more pressure points. Apple’s WWDC will test whether the market still rewards AI product narratives, Oracle earnings will test AI infrastructure profitability, CPI/PPI will test the rate story, and Sunday evening futures will show whether Friday was a healthy reset or the first leg of a deeper derisking phase. For biotech, the message is even stricter: after ASCO, the tape is moving away from headline excitement and back toward evidence quality, regulatory path, PDUFA timing, cash runway, dilution risk and FDA-specific execution.

Main single-stock stories
  • AVGO— Broadcom remains the key AI valuation-reset name after the post-earnings reaction spilled into the broader semiconductor complex and raised the bar for every crowded AI winner.AI Earnings
  • MRVL— Marvell is now a double catalyst: an AI custom-silicon story and an S&P 500 inclusion story, with index entry scheduled before the open on June 22.AI / Index
  • FLEX— Flex joins Marvell in the S&P 500 rebalance, giving the contract-manufacturing and data-center hardware supply chain another benchmark-flow angle.Index Flow
  • NVDA— Nvidia remains the anchor of the AI market, but Friday proved that even the strongest leader can be pulled lower when yields rise and semiconductor multiples compress.AI Anchor
  • AMD / INTC— AMD and Intel remain breadth checks for the chip tape; after Friday’s washout, follow-through matters more than catch-up narratives.Chip Breadth
  • AAPL— Apple’s WWDC becomes a major AI-sentiment event this week because the market wants clearer proof that Apple can turn AI features into product momentum.WWDC / AI
  • ORCL— Oracle earnings will be a major AI-infrastructure read because the market wants evidence that cloud demand, capex and AI backlog can translate into profitable growth.AI Earnings
  • GME— GameStop remains a retail-flow and special-situation watch after quarterly revenue growth and a new $2 billion share repurchase authorization kept the name active.Retail / Buyback
  • PHAR— Pharming remains a fresh FDA-calendar name after FDA acceptance of the Joenja/leniolisib pediatric sNDA resubmission for APDS in children aged 4 to 11, with an October 24, 2026 PDUFA date.FDA / Rare Disease
  • URGN / TEVA— UroGen and Teva remain on the legal/IP watchlist after the JELMYTO patent-litigation settlement, which allows potential Teva generic entry beginning September 15, 2030 if approved by FDA.Legal / IP
  • IDYA— IDEAYA remains one of the cleaner post-ASCO regulatory stories because darovasertib plus crizotinib has a visible metastatic uveal melanoma path, but FDA alignment remains the key filter.ASCO / Regulatory
  • IMRX— Immuneering remains a pancreatic cancer validation story after ASCO, but the new risk-off tape makes Phase 3 design, cash runway and financing discipline more important.ASCO / Pancreatic
  • NXTC— NextCure remains an early ADC watch around SIM0505 and CDH6, but the market will demand more mature patient numbers, safety clarity and capital visibility.ASCO / ADC
  • IMTX— Immatics remains one of the stronger institutional cell-therapy stories from ASCO, with PRAME TCR-T execution and the SUPRAME Phase 3 path still central.ASCO / Cell Therapy
  • COGT / BBIO / VERA / CORT / CELC / CAPR— The FDA catalyst basket stays important because higher yields usually make biotech more selective, increasing the premium on clean PDUFA timing, label setup and cash runway.PDUFA Watch
Macro and pressure on the tape
  • Payrolls are now the anchor— May payrolls rose by 172,000 and unemployment held at 4.3%, reducing the market’s room to price fast Fed easing.Jobs
  • Yields matter again— The stronger labor print pushed investors back toward the higher-for-longer debate, which is painful for long-duration growth, small caps and cash-burning biotech.Rates
  • Nasdaq shock— Friday’s tech-heavy selloff was not a normal pause: the Nasdaq fell more than 4%, and the semiconductor complex took the hardest hit.Tech
  • SOXX stress test— The chip tape suffered one of its worst sessions in years, making Monday’s follow-through critical for AI sentiment.Semis
  • AI is not broken, but stricter— The infrastructure theme remains real, but the market is now demanding upside, margin protection, guidance strength and valuation discipline at the same time.AI Valuation
  • Apple is the product test— WWDC will show whether investors still reward AI software narratives or demand immediate evidence of user adoption and monetization.AAPL
  • Oracle is the infrastructure test— Oracle earnings will matter because investors want to see whether AI cloud demand can support margins, capex and durable revenue acceleration.ORCL
  • Inflation data returns— CPI and PPI are the next macro checks because Friday’s payrolls already made the Fed setup more difficult for risk assets.CPI / PPI
  • Oil still matters— Middle East risk keeps crude and inflation expectations relevant, especially if energy adds pressure on top of hot labor data.Oil / Geo
  • ASCO digestion continues— Biotech is past the easy headline stage. The tape is separating registrational paths from early signals, biomarker stories and single-arm datasets.Biotech
  • FDA policy watch— FDA’s June draft guidance on leveraging prior knowledge in gene therapy development is constructive for rare-disease sponsors, but company-specific approvability still matters.Regulatory
  • Small-cap filter— IWM and XBI are the breadth checkpoints. If they lag while mega-cap AI tries to stabilize, the rally remains narrow and fragile.Breadth
